Acesco Puerto Rico marks 25 years at its Bayamón steel plant
Acesco Puerto Rico, a maker of steel products with a plant in the Luchetti industrial area of Bayamón, marked 25 years on the island at an event on November 4, Primera Hora reported. The company recounted how the plant grew and announced new investments in local manufacturing, the outlet said.
From two pipe mills to a wider line
The operation dates to the late 1990s, when local investors combined Bayamón Steel and Platt Metal at the Luchetti facilities, which then had two mills for making pipe, the outlet reported. An alliance with Grupo Acesco in 2001 began a new stage of growth, and the later purchase of Matcorp expanded its output of metal profiles and roofing.
Over the last three years the company added two chain-link mesh machines, a continuous corrugation line, another Track & Studs machine and a new loading and storage warehouse, Primera Hora reported. The Bayamón plant also installed 588 solar panels with 270 kilowatts of direct-current capacity, which the company said cover the plant's operating needs.
The company is also considering making and supplying components for the Hatillo solar project, the outlet reported.
The plant's property and its new filings
The plant sits on a property of 20,337 square meters on Calle B, Lot 30, Urb. Industrial Luchetti. A single business permit for metal manufacturing there was filed by the owner on May 19, 2026, recorded as approved; it lists 47 jobs. An earlier single business permit on the property was filed on March 4, 2022, also recorded as approved.
The newest filings concern the buildings. An environmental determination for expanding the existing warehouse structure was filed on September 10, 2026, recorded as approved. A consolidated construction permit for the same expansion followed on September 14, 2026, and is recorded as incomplete. It lists 180 days of work.
