Cidra's Flor de Maga Gastrobar closes, leaving a 1,446 m² site
Flor de Maga Gastrobar, a criollo fine-dining restaurant in Cidra, announced on Friday, October 30, 2026 that it had closed for good, effective immediately, Primera Hora reported. The restaurant had planned a farewell weekend with its customers but said unforeseen circumstances forced it to close early.
The restaurant's property
The restaurant operated from a property of about 1,446 square meters on Calle 1 at road PR-172, Km 12.7, in the Parcelas Gandara community of the Arenas ward of Cidra. The restaurant's company filed for a permit there on March 11, 2023, for a restaurant with retail sale of alcoholic beverages, recorded as approved.
Filings from August 2015 describe the construction of a cafeteria selling food and alcoholic beverages on the same property, also recorded as approved.
The property's last recorded sale is a deed from September 30, 2014, in which a mortgage lender sold it; the deed states no price. No advertisement currently offers the property for sale or for lease.
Commercial space on offer in Cidra
Another restaurant property is on the market in town. A restaurant run from an equipped kitchen trailer, sold with its fenced lot in the Rincón ward of Cidra, has been advertised since March 3, 2026, asking $250,000.
In the Arenas ward itself, a commercial property on road PR-734, with 545.7 square meters built on a 677-square-meter lot, has been advertised since July 23, 2026, asking $349,000. In the town center, a two-story commercial building on José de Diego Street (PR-172), with 499 square meters built on a 1,174-square-meter lot, has been advertised since October 21, 2022, asking $151,000.
An industry under pressure
The closure comes as the Puerto Rico Restaurant Association projected that 26% of the 5,000 restaurants operating on the island would not withstand a new increase in electricity rates, the outlet reported.
A report by the firm Inteligencia Económica, carried out between September 15 and October 14, warned that, counting only closures already decided or very likely, about 1,300 establishments would close and about 4,700 direct jobs would be at risk, mostly in independent restaurants, the outlet reported. Other local businesses that recently announced closures include La Manada, Buenos Ayres Market & Grill and Ujeong Korean BBQ.
