Walmart breaks ground on $65 million Supercenter in Bayamón
Walmart Puerto Rico broke ground on a Tuesday on a $65 million project for the first Walmart Supercenter in Bayamón, at the intersection of PR-167 and PR-828 in the Buena Vista ward, El Vocero de Puerto Rico reported at elvocero.com. The outlet did not give the date of the ceremony.
The store and the jobs
The store will cover about 170,000 square feet and will be the company's 19th in Puerto Rico, the outlet reported. It will be the first store of its kind in Bayamón.
The company announced more than 265 construction jobs and more than 600 permanent jobs, according to the outlet. Both job counts are the company's own.
Bayamón's property market
The store is going up in a municipality with an active commercial market. RED Atlas data (October 13, 2026) shows 86 commercial properties listed for sale in Bayamón in the latest snapshot, and the full profile is at Bayamón market profile.
Landlords are also offering space. The same snapshot counts 64 (October 13, 2026) commercial properties offered for lease in the municipality.
Registered sales give a slower view, because deeds take time to reach the property registry. In October 2025, the latest month in the series, the registry recorded 13 (October 2025) commercial sale deeds in Bayamón, counting only deeds typed as commercial.
Homes make up a larger share of what is on the market. Sellers had 312 (October 13, 2026) residential properties actively listed for sale in Bayamón in the latest snapshot.
Those sellers want a median of $252,842 (September 2026) for a home. That number is an asking price, the amount a seller hopes to get, and it is not what a buyer paid.
Deeds show what actually changed hands. In the latest available deed month, the registry recorded 249 (October 2025) residential sales in Bayamón, counted from registered sale deeds.
Renters face their own asking prices. Landlords in Bayamón are asking a median monthly rent of $1,275 (September 2026), a number that reflects listings and not signed leases.
The company projects that the store will open in the second quarter of 2028, the outlet reported. Until then, the site at PR-167 and PR-828 remains a construction project.
