According to the outlet, the agency said the goal is to keep water from topping the floodgates. It also wants to avoid larger openings that could flood communities downstream of the dam.

The agency paired the release with a warning about supply. It said the drought has not ended, the outlet reported, and it urged customers to use water prudently.
