What the organization reported
The cost of properties, rising construction costs and the limited supply of alternatives families can afford make it hard both to buy a home and to keep it in good condition, the organization said, according to the outlet. A repair to fix roof leaks, plumbing problems or structural damage averages about $30,000 per home, by the organization's figures.
One of its projects, Jiménez Sicardó, is a multifamily building in Caguas with seven apartments for low- and moderate-income families, at an estimated total cost of $1.5 million including permits, repairs, labor and materials, with completion projected for 2028, the outlet reported. The organization has built, rehabilitated and repaired homes in Puerto Rico since 1997, and it trains community members in roof waterproofing through its volunteer brigades.
