After a 24-hour blackout, Guayanilla restaurant La Manada shuts
La Manada, a barbecue restaurant in Guayanilla, has stopped regular operations after repeated power outages, Primera Hora and Metro Puerto Rico reported on October 29, 2026. Its owner, a chef, said in a live video that the restaurant had once again gone more than 24 hours without electricity.
A decade of service stops over power
The chef, who is also a judge on the WAPA TV competition Súper Chef Celebrities, blamed months of outages that cost him food and damaged expensive equipment, along with electricity bills that kept rising, Primera Hora reported.
Metro Puerto Rico, which called the business La Manada Ribs, reported that he made the announcement on Wednesday, after the restaurant spent more than 24 hours without power on October 28. The outlet reported that the restaurant had served customers for a decade and opened on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The closure lasts until further notice, Metro Puerto Rico reported, and the owner said keeping the restaurant open is not economically viable. He will keep cooking for private and corporate events, both outlets reported, and hopes to reopen when the power situation improves.
The same week, breakdowns at Central San Juan and Central Aguirre led LUMA Energy to announce blackouts for Tuesday and Wednesday that could stretch into the weekend, Primera Hora reported.
The property behind the restaurant
The restaurant stands on a 4,873 square meter lot, about 1.2 acres, at Carretera 3131 Km 0.3, Barrero, Guayanilla. The chef bought the property in January 2017 for $35,000.
The business's permit filings on the site go back a decade. A use permit for food and drink sales, a billiard table and a jukebox was filed on August 21, 2015, recorded as approved; a fire prevention certificate filed the same day was recorded as denied.
Single business permits filed in January 2021, September 2022, June 2023 and June 2024 were each recorded as approved; the last two describe a restaurant selling alcohol. The latest renewal, filed on July 3, 2025, is recorded as incomplete.
