Senate calls October 29 housing summit as asking prices dip 4.9%
Puerto Rico's Senate president and the chair of the Senate Housing and Social Welfare Committee have called an Affordable Housing Multisector Meeting for Thursday, October 29, 2026, in the Leopoldo Figueroa Hall of the Capitol, The San Juan Daily Star reported on October 28. The meeting starts at 8:00 a.m., Periódico El Sol de Puerto Rico reported on October 27.

Government agencies, financial institutions, the construction and real estate industries, professional groups and nonprofits will take part, the Daily Star said. The agenda centers on raising the housing supply: recovering vacant and abandoned properties, fixing title problems, streamlining permits, financing, and building and rehabilitating homes, along with aid programs for buyers and tenants.
Senate leaders cited data from the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions showing that home sales fell about 7% in the first half of 2026 from a year earlier, while average home prices rose 12.6%, both outlets reported. The Senate president is also drafting legislation to preserve Puerto Rico's opportunity zone map for local incentives aimed at middle-income housing, the Daily Star said.
What sellers ask
Asking prices point the other way. The median asking price of homes listed for sale in Puerto Rico was $295,501 in October 2026, 4.9% below the $310,793 of October 2025. An asking price is what sellers want, while the commissioner's figure is an average of recorded sales, so the two measure different things.
