DHS opens a $22 million CBP and Coast Guard complex at the Port of Ponce
The US Department of Homeland Security opened a joint facility worth nearly $22 million for US Customs and Border Protection and the US Coast Guard at the Port of Ponce, Puerto Rico, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to the department's announcement as published by the World Border Security Congress. The new complex stands next to the historic United States Custom House.
What the agencies built
The project demolished the former facility and replaced it with a new two-story, 9,650-square-foot complex, DHS said. The building holds office, training, operational, security and maintenance spaces.
The site also gained a 1,880-square-foot boat maintenance bay and improved pier and boat ramp infrastructure, according to DHS. The project upgraded utilities, parking and emergency backup power as well.
Two federal units now work from the complex: the US Coast Guard Resident Inspection Office Ponce and the CBP Air and Marine Operations Ponce Marine Unit. The commander of Coast Guard Sector San Juan called it a long-term investment in operational readiness and critical infrastructure protection.
Ponce's commercial market
In Ponce, RED Atlas counted 50 active commercial for-sale listings in its latest monthly inventory snapshot (October 13, 2026), and the registry recorded 18 commercial sale deeds in October 2025, the most recent month in that series.
