Yauco breaks ground on a $2.6 million parking lot for its market square
Yauco broke ground on September 30, 2026, on a $2,581,481.50 remodel of the parking lot of its Plaza del Mercado, on Calle Comercio in the town centre, and the governor handed over four property titles and a new home to a family that lost theirs in the southern earthquakes, WIPR and NotiCel reported.
The parking lot
The remodel is paid for by the City Revitalization Program (CRP). Construction began on August 31, 2026, and is planned to take 239 days. The work includes acquiring the land, repaving and marking the spaces, accessible spaces under the ADA, new sidewalks and curbs, storm drainage improvements and solar LED lighting. Project estimates put it at 37 direct jobs and more than 36,475 people served, according to the outlets. The sign at the site, in WIPR's photo, lists a lower investment, $1,627,125.

Titles and homes
Four families received property titles through the Department of Housing's title program, which gives them legal certainty over homes many of them built over years, WIPR reported. The governor also toured the Jardín del Paraíso housing project, and in the Aguas Blancas ward handed over a new home, built through the earthquake program (EQK), to a resident who lost hers entirely in the earthquakes that struck the south of Puerto Rico.
