Yabucoa's three closed paradores sold for $2.1 million after foreclosure, at up to half their asking prices
New owners have bought the three Tropical Inns paradores in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, which had been closed for about a year, and are restoring them, elvocero.com reported on October 6, 2026. Once the repairs are finished, the three properties will add about 80 rooms to the town's lodging, according to the outlet.
Who bought the inns
The buyers are an American married couple, who took the two larger inns with beach access and pools, and a doctor from Yabucoa, the outlet reported. They are working with the municipal administration, the town's tourism office and the mayor.
The doctor's investment reaches $2.5 million and covers both the purchase and the repairs, according to the outlet. His parador will have 18 rooms, a rooftop terrace and a pool, and is still seeking its permits.
What the deeds say
The three paradores sit on three lots in Camino Nuevo, of 9,812 m2 on PR-901 and 2,662 m2 and 2,349 m2 at Playa Lucía on PR-9911, all zoned DTS, tourist development; the two Playa Lucía lots lie mostly in coastal flood zone VE. All three went through a foreclosure sale under Law 210 on December 3, 2024, at $650,000, $835,000 and $695,400.
The lender then put them on the market. The Parador Costa del Mar on PR-901 was listed on March 21, 2025 at $695,000 and sold on June 12, 2025 for $625,000 in the registry, 10% under the ask; the tax roll books the same deed at $352,000. The Parador Palmas de Lucía and the Hotel Lucía Beach, after a July 2025 offer of the two together at $2,500,000 and then $3,500,000, were listed separately on November 6, 2025 at $1,350,000 and $1,150,000. Both sold on April 10, 2026, for $650,000 and $800,000, 52% and 30% under the asks.
The three deeds add up to $2,075,000 for the three inns, before repairs. No new permit has been filed on any of the three lots since the sales.
Other lodging in the town
Yabucoa's permit file shows a lodging remodel on a 1,229 m2 lot in Camino Nuevo with a construction permit approved September 3, 2024, a four-room short-term lodging approved February 11, 2026, and a use permit for a private tourism and agrotourism project filed in September 2026 and marked incomplete. The town has 66 active short-term rental listings from 50 hosts, at a median of $234 a night.
What comes next
The outlet reported that the doctor plans to remodel and open his parador within the next 16 months, once it clears the permitting process. Officials expect full tourism activity in the town during 2027, according to the outlet. The mayor also said a new private administrator will soon take over the operation of the Boulevard del Puerto, the outlet reported.
