Work resumes on $6.1 million Hotel Ojo de Agua in Rincón's urban center
The Puerto Rico Housing Department restarted construction on the Hotel Ojo de Agua, an unfinished structure in the urban center of Rincón, with a cornerstone ceremony on September 25, 2026, NotiCel reported. The Weekly Journal and Sin Comillas also covered the ceremony. The work will turn the building into a hotel with 16 guest rooms and commercial spaces.
What the project includes
NotiCel reported that the department is paying for the work with $6.1 million in CDBG-DR funds through the City Revitalization Program. The Weekly Journal put the federal financing at $6,139,829.70 and reported that the Secretary of State and the Housing Secretary led the groundbreaking.
The finished hotel will have 16 guest rooms, a reception, offices, a laundry, a kitchen, a bar and restaurant, a spa, a meeting room, terraces and commercial spaces, and the building will double as an emergency shelter and service center, NotiCel reported. The work is expected to take about a year and to generate 46 direct jobs, the three outlets reported.
The hotel's permits
The project appears in the permits portal as Hotel Rincón Ojo de Agua, a 16-room hotel in the urban center on Calle del Parque. Its environmental determination by categorical exclusion dates from April 2025, two health and safety recommendation requests were approved on September 10, 2025, and an infrastructure recommendation request was approved on September 15, 2025. A pre-consultation approved in April 2026 covers 65 additional parking spaces for the Urbano Ojo de Agua parking area under the same revitalization program.
